Best barbecue around for sure...

Hotel recommended this little gem after a long day. Always a good sign when there is a line. I barely missed the brisket but they recommended the ribs which were absolutely delicious. Perfectly smoked and tender, fall off the bone but not even close to being dried out even tho they were closing at the end of the day. Great bbq sauce! The turnip greens and cucumber salad were worth the trip all on their own. Can’t wait until work brings me back so I can try the brisket and peach cobbler.

Be a man and get the Hercules. Service here is great. Not only did the staff treat me well, but the locals in line were very nice and assured me that “you’ll come back”. And I definitely will. If you’re within 15-20 minutes of this place, make a detour!!

Love the ribs and Okra. I have been eating here every time I'm in town for 25 years and its still the best in town.

I have had many items from the menu with absolutely no disappointments.the Hercules sandwich, ribs, sliced beef, any side item. my only issue is I can not eat everything I want but i do try.if this is not in the top ten bbq places I dont know what is.

Best BBQ I've had in a decade.

Always outstanding food and service here, and very reasonable prices. This place has been so popular for so long because they have stayed true to what the customers want, great tasting fresh food, and generous helpings, with a sincere appreciation for your business. Sure, they could stand to update the facilities a bit, but some of the best food you'll find is in this little old restaurant.

The ribs were fall off the bone amazing the sausage had a nice meaty taste and the sauce was perfect even though you don't really need it. The fried okra was tasty and the green beans were perfectly salty and delicious. It was crowded but the line goes by really fast and everyone working there is friendly and they keep the line moving at a speedy pace.

My wife and I had a dinner and it was like family. So comfortable and so much more than I expected. And the food was really good.

Such good food! And the people are very helpful and friendly. The first time I'd been, I had no idea what to get and was not steered wrong. Been there twice since.

Local favorite! Just inside the loop on Palestine Avenue (Hwy 79). Bruce and his staff cook fantastic BBQ. Your choice of beef, chicken, turkey, ham, ribs & sausage. All the sides to include slaw, potato salad, beans, fries okra, corn on the cob, green beans, and his famous peach cobbler. Friday and Saturday include fried catfish plates. People come from all over and far away.

Its It's truly delicious. My wife and I were just passing through town and decided to stop and get a bite. I am really glad we did. We ordered a little bit of everything. Fantastic taste. The only thing I could say on the negative side would be it was a bit on the pricey side. But when you consider what your getting that's kind of a stretch. So give it a try, you won't regret it..

This is the BEST place for BBQ or Fish in Anderson and surrounding counties PERIOD!!! Possibly in the state. Try the Mailman or the Hercules for something different. The folks or nice and the food is on point Everytime.

We were camping in the area, and decided to come into town to visit Palestine. We had no idea where to eat, but spotted Shep's and decided to give it a try. So glad we did! Terrific barbeque, really friendly staff, and very reasonable prices. Highly recommended!

Good bbq. Moist brisket, good ribs. Sausage is ok. Good sides as well.

Best barbecue I've Ever had

I've been to some of the very best - Shep's is in my Top 5! Great selection, old school Roadside Joint feel. Very pleasant and courteous people and simple atmosphere. Highly recommended! 👍

Shep's is best! Best catfish in town! Friday and Saturday only! Great BBQ six days a week. Even if they are crowded, it's worth the wait!

Food was decent but we ordered through doordash and they left out our aides. When we called the restaurant to explain what happened the employee we spoke to was very rude and not helpful at all

They are always pleasant. The food is always on point. Great owner he is always cutting meat and working. That's why his place does great. He's not afraid to do some hard work along with his employees.

Good BBQ from a place a little out of the way of our rooute, but worth the stop!The proprietor was a jovial man in a cowboy hat, happy to Ladle your plate full of his delicious creations.While we were in there, dozens of locals stopped in and three police officers on lunch break. Obviously a consistent, tasty place well regarded by the locals.

I have been eatting at Shep's since I was very young. I have enjoyed the consistency and great tasting food. Prices are reasonable and you will never be disappointed. Make sure you drink some sweet tea and say hi to Bruce.
